Our Trips
To China
We have so far made five trips to China. Our first trip to Asia was to adopt Yanmei
in February 2000 followed two years later by our second trip in October 2002 to adopt Daji. We
have been back three times since then, first in April 2006 to visit Yanmei's SWI in
Jinchang, Gansu; then again in October 2007 to visit Daji's SWI in Yiwu,
Zhejiang. Our fifth trip was not adoption related and took place in April 2009.
The two adoption trips tell two very different stories of adopting two children who
reacted completely differently and our concerns during the first days with Daji.
The two trips tell of the many fantastic sights and cities that can be found in
China where we have spent time in such varied places as Beijing, Xian, Lanzhou,
Hangzhou, Suzhou, Yangshou, Guilin, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Pingyao, Wuwei, Yiwu and
Jinchang.

Collecting Yanmei
We saw Yanmei for the first time on
February 28th, 2000. Thomas, Lene and Steven travelled with two days
notice to Beijing, and flew to
Lanzhou
to collect Yanmei, before spending a couple more days in Beijing before
returning to Copenhagen.

Collecting Daji
"Gotcha Day" for Daji was on October
28th, 2002 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Yanmei, Lene and Steven travelled with
three other families starting in Beijing
where we visited the Great Wall, travelling on to
Hangzhou, famous for its West Lake, and returning to
Beijing
to complete formalities and visiting the Summer Palace.

Visiting Yanmei's SWI
In April 2006 we took our 3rd trip to
China in order to visit the Jinchang SWI in Gansu province - the home of
Yanmei during the first 30 months of her life.
We visited
Beijing
seeing amongst other sights, the Temple of Heaven, the Great Wall,
Beihai Park and the Fobidden City, before travelling to
Xian
to see the Terracotta Soilders, returning to
Lanzhou, where we'd collected Yanmei six years earlier,
travelling to Jinchang
for a fantastic visit to the SWI, and returning, via
Wuwei,
to Beijing.

Visiting
Daji's SWI
In October 2007 we returned to China
for our fourth trip, that included a trip to Yiwu to visit Daji's SWI
where he spent almost 36 months.
We started in Shanghai
and it's famous Bund, visited Suzhou with
its gardens, Hangzhou with the West Lake, Yiwu
and Daji's SWI, flew to Yangshou and spent
four days cycling in the Chinese countryside, Guilin
and finishing in Hong Kong.

Tourists In China
In March and April 2009, we returned to China
for our fifth trip. This time there were no adoption related activities,
just the chance to be tourists in China.
We started in
Beijing where we took time to visit the Olympic Stadium and some
of the sites that were being renovated last time around. We took the
train to Pingyao with
its famous walled city. We flew Guilin and
spent a week visiting the countryside around Yangshou
and the rice terraces in Longsheng. Back in
Beijing we saw more of the sites and spent a day in
Chengde
and its Summer Palace before taking a 10km hike along the
Great Wall.
