Our Motivation Letter

Mother: Lene Maak, born 6th March 1955 in Gentofte, Denmark.

Father: Steven Bloom, born 30th September 1958 in Weymouth, Dorset, England.

Son: Thomas Maak Bloom, born 18th June 1986 in Gentofte, Denmark.

Since the birth of our first child in 1986 we have wished to have one or more additional children. There are a number of reasons for this. We would like a brother and/or sister for our son Thomas, and Thomas himself has always wanted a brother and/or sister. Another reason is the fact that our immediate family is small – only Lene’s brother has a child, a daughter. However most importantly we feel we have the necessary resources, both economic, time, love and energy, to bring up another child.

Despite numerous attempts, both with hormones and artificial insemination (FIV), it has proven not to be possible due to Lene’s infertility. This was finally concluded in February 1997. Upon our return to Denmark from France, we have worked towards adopting a child.

We have chosen China as the country for adoption due to the fact that there are a number of children from Asia (China, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam …) in Denmark, and these are easily integrated into Danish society. In addition we believe that Chinese children are well looked after in Chinese orphanages.

We promise not to abandon or abuse the adopted child, and bring up the child healthily, in the same way that we have brought up our own son, Thomas. We will give the child the same love and care and the same possibilities for education and other activities as we have given Thomas, as well as supporting the child in every possible way to thrive and prosper in the future.
